`caniusepython3` chokes attempting to check kids-cache for python3 support

there is a tool called caniusepython3 that is extracting the url https://www.red-dove.com/pypi/projects/K/kids-cache/project.json from somewhere and making a request for it, which fails because of a bad certificate:
