Cosmic: Grey screen instead of password prompt after screen lock

Sometimes I get a grey screen instead of the usual lock screen password prompt after the sceen locks / sleeps when idle. This doesn't happen every time and I have yet to identify a pattern. When this happens, I have to restart the PC (at least that's the only solution I found)
I have to investigate more and see if an upstream issue exists.
