# Seminar: Data Science for Medical Applications
8
+
In this seminar, current and relevant research progress in the field of data science for the analysis of medical data is reviewed and presented by the students.
9
+
10
+
## Goal
11
+
Familiarization with different types of biomedical data (e.g., medical image data, genomic data, survey data)
12
+
Exploration of the benefits data science can offer to medicine
13
+
Learning about common use cases of AI in health and medicine
14
+
Overview of the latest research and technological advancements of AI for biomedical problems
15
+
Understanding barriers to the adoption of data science in healthcare settings, including ethical and privacy considerations when handling sensitive medical data
16
+
17
+
## Seminar Contents
18
+
An introductory session will provide some background and help with getting started. The seminar consists of a small number of meetings and leaves room for independent reading and preparation.
19
+
20
+
Students choose a topic from the list of selected areas at the interface of AI and medicine. Based on this, they will read and review relevant scientific papers and present their findings in a final presentation and a short written report.
21
+
22
+
We provide two to three publications per topic as a starting point. Students are required to identify and review additional relevant literature. Additionally, they are encouraged to explore and conceptualize potential new solutions for their respective topics.
23
+
24
+
The seminar concludes with a final presentation and a written report.
