Is it possible to develop an add-on for home assistant to run NeoHub?

Hi,

I noticed some functionality in Home Assistant is running as a docker container in HAOS. Apparently these are called add-ons in HA jargon. Would it be possible to develop an add-on for home assistant to run NeoHub?

Yes, and that is the plan. I don't have access to a supervised HA install, so I'm hoping someone who does can work out what exactly needs to happen for that, but if not, I'll take a run at it.

I've started working on a Home Assistant add-on for NeoHub. I'd suggest creating a separate repo for the HA App: BrianHumlicek/NeoHub-Home-Assistant-App, or maybe a dedicated GitHub organization?

The structure would look like this:

• BrianHumlicek/NeoHub – core app, DSC panel communication
• BrianHumlicek/NeoHub-Home-Assistant-App – HA App that runs NeoHub as a Docker container
• BrianHumlicek/NeoHub-Home-Assistant-Integration – HA Integration (custom component)
  I have a proof-of-concept ready, but I'm not experienced with C#, so I'm still getting familiar with the codebase. If you're okay with it, could you create an empty repo? I'll try to open an initial PR this weekend.

I would like it if the final product was a single repository. If the changes to make it a HA app are incompatible with the current usage, then I would create a build process that creates the HA app from the existing somehow. For testing, I don't mind creating a branch for it or if you want to clone the repository and test it on your side.

Do you have the changes somewhere I can look them over? I saw a pull request come and go so I am not sure if that was complete or not.

The HA app is actually a configuration that runs Docker under the hood - existing NeoHub image. I had to prepare a few changes (e.g., routing) to make it work properly within the HA panel. As I mentioned, it's just a POC for now, so I need to test it thoroughly. I'll try to send the PR during weekend.

I'm loosely familiar with HA apps in that I know they are docker containers under the hood. I assume they just needed some kind of yaml config to make it work which wouldn't disrupt the current docker deployment.

As I mentioned before, I have no way to test it, so, I haven't prioritized it. I'm hoping someone like your self can get it figured out and I'll pull in the changes.

Since it requires upstream changes, I'm currently using a manual Docker build based on my fork of PR #24.

My goal is to have first class support for this. We merged some changes needed to make it work, but I am not sure what else it might need. I'll find out.

Yes, I've updated my HA App to the latest NeoHub build — I'm also using it with Home Assistant.

I'm currently thinking about how to implement the bypass setting in the Home Assistant integration. It will probably end up as a custom entity or a dashboard card. I'll try to work on it and test some ideas over the weekend.
