Sample along “discrete” disturbances/perturbation (oils spills, O2 excursions, hurricanes, etc..) Plankton, animal, benthic – depending on context). Viruses archaea, bacteria, protists….

Use Deep Horizon event as disturbance, would have to harvest metadata for available resource. NODC has deep horizon web site.
Scope to focus on Oil spill events as the target of the sampling feature. Bottom line here is difficulty in identifying the spatial/temporal location of the disturbance; once have that, problem is spatial-temporal search on sampling feature services.
Deepwater data is abundant, but deeply and complexly buried in NOAA data site.
