im871a sometimes stops working

Using the wmbusmeters Home Assistant add-on with:

Symptoms

• wmbusmeters stops working - not ingesting any data anymore
• im871a no hit when searching under hardware in Home Assistant. Also after reboot of HA VM.

Configs

wmbusmeters:

• device is set to /dev/ttyUSB1:im871a:s1 from the GUI accessible via HA.

Log

[ALARM SpecifiedDeviceNotFound] the device im871a:s1 is not working
Expected im871a on /dev/ttyUSB1 but did not find it! Ignoring tty!
No wmbus device detected, waiting for a device to be plugged in.

Started config im871a[<removed>] on /dev/ttyUSB1 listening on s1

Temp workaround

• Physically disconnect the USB.

What didn't work

• Restarting Home Assistant
