As a developer, I understand that too many tasks can overwhelm us, causing us to forget the basic features necessary for the user. When that happens, people eventually lose interest in the app.
I like this app, so here are the basic features I've noticed that LANraragi needs as a library app to properly open and read books.
Basic feature
1. Quick Page List View in the Dashboard
Most hentai manga sites show the list first. We are used to seeing the page list on e-hentai and nhentai. Even when using folders, we see the content list before reading the pages.
- Reason: We often want to see the content before deciding to read or skip it.
- Solution: Add a setting for "Click Behavior." Choose whether clicking a title/cover shows the page list first or opens the first page directly. At least, add an option button to the right-click menu on the dashboard.
2. Immediate Full Title Display on Hover
On the first page list, long titles are currently truncated. To see the full title, you have to hover and wait several seconds for a tooltip.
- Reason: Time saving. When looking through long lists, you need to see information quickly.
- Solution: Display the full name in an extended panel (similar to nhentai) or create a cleaner, larger text in tooltip that appears immediately on hover (similar to the current Tag on hover).
3. "Read" vs. "Not Yet Read" Toggle Button
When you’ve read a book but come back later, you often end up questioning, "Did I read this? When?"
- Reason: We need to distinguish between what is finished and what isn't. The "NEW" label isn't enough because it disappears if you accidentally click it just to check the content.
- Improvement: A "Read Complete" date would be even better to track how many days ago it was finished.
4. Hide/Show Books with Specific Tags
Sometimes we tempted want to show our collections to a friend. but what if you have "weird kink" genres dont want that friend to see. (This is defenitely necessary)
- Reason: Privacy/Curating the view for others.
- Solution: In Settings, add a text box for "Hidden Tags." Also button to toggle on/off hidden stuff.
- Options: Hide entirely from the list/deck, or show them as transparent/greyed out.
5. Video and GIF Player Support
What's great in LRR it not just for manga but also for doujinshi, cosplay, misc.
sometimes some collection like cosplay have video file or doujinshi have .gif file inside their zip.
- Reason: If these are hidden, we can't see the complete content. People often assume they've finished a book when they've actually missed files because the app doesn't render them. That's bad.

Colorize Tag Namespaces:
It’s currently it hard to see the tags in one line.
like which is character tag, circle tag, language tag, or other tag.
- Solution: In setting add list that user can add or remove. in each list item there is 2 field need to fill, namespace and color.

Custom Time Format:
The current 5/8/2026 is restrictive. Add options like 8.5.2026 or 2026-05-08 or other.

Total Page Count in 'Archive Overview':
We see page counts while reading, but having it on the overview saves time during browsing.
Plugin Improvements
- Chaika.moe:
Add options to include tags for "Source Metadata," "Description," and "Posted Date."
When an app doesn't work the way it should, users often get frustrated and go back to their old methods. As someone who reads manga, I think you understand how most hentai sites behave. We should use those established behaviors as a baseline and improve where they fail.
Don't forget that most people who download this stuff are used to managing things via folders. LANraragi is the only self-hosted app that comes close to the right experience please keep the project alive.
