1823 Letters with Issues #29

@ebeshero

Description

@ebeshero

Letters with significant problems (more than minor, easily correctible white space problems) that are currently posted on Digital Mitford site for the year 1823. @brookestewart

Common Issues:

  • handnotes are not treated consistently with the <handNote> element. (Sometimes people are using <note> elements instead.)
  • <place> used instead of <placeName>
  • Hey, why is Charles Kemble still a stub in the SI? Let's fix that now(!)
  • NOTE problem of site index entries NOT showing when the entry points to more than one referent.
  • Address lineation isn't consistent: Sometimes big/multiple(?) spaces between lines, and sometimes single-spaced. The multiple spaces are generated by coders (incorrectly) using <lb/> in addition to <addrLine>. 2018-01-24 REPAIRED: We had an <lb/> element inside <addrLine> in the DMTEI letter template file
  • Random periods after extensive space at the ends of letters--what's generating these? (Jan 13 and Feb 28 1823)
  • Pen Annotator notes are not appearing distinctly from other kinds of notes. Address this in XSLT and CSS so we clearly distinguish who's leaving these notes. <add hand="somebody"> needs to be accounted for.
  • Change the XSLT so that metamark elements are output BEFORE the <span class="add"> which elevates the text above the line.
  • Deleted names, even though si-referenced, do not generate pop-up notes. See 24 August 1823, Mr. Bewick.
  • Deleted sic-reg words are BOTH showing together like this: shewnshown . See Jan 13 1823, where the output HTML looks like this:
<span class="del"> (remember that this is in strict confidence &amp; must not be shewnshownto any human being.)</span>
  • Work on the XQuery to ensure that letters really are sortable by date. Currently the sort isn't working reliably (see 1823). Is this a datatype issue?
