• create new html template (as a copy of index.html), but make the query based on bbox drawn on a map

This looks like a great start! Here are a few things to think about:

• what happens when there are no results (I drew a box in the middle of the ocean)?
• is there a way to include navigation before clicking to draw the rectangle, perhaps ctrl-click for drawing and regular click for pan?
• perhaps include a map preview in the results card template?
• make sure to sort by overlap percent
• can we consider two queries? fully within and intersect (with percentage). We need to consider that this kind of search includes everything with a bigger bbox (not bad, but can be confusing)
• when I draw a box on South America, I get the correct results ... when I draw a box on Africa, something goes wrong (probably because it crosses the latitude 0 (that place in England)
