MacOS 15.7.8 upgrade today seems to break Slinger

Hi Jerry,
It's me from the past. (the guy that sent you a slingbox solo) Been loving using slinger for the past several years. Has worked like a charm. Today I upgraded my iMac that I use as the server (running Sequoia on an Intel Mac with Open Core Legacy). A minor upgrade to 15.7.8. This seems to have broken my slinger install that has worked for years.

First thing it did...It wouldn't boot the script. It identified slinger.py as potential malware. It "quarantined" it. Using Terminal commands, I verified that it had been quarantined and remove it from quarantine. Unfortunately, now the script will boot but devices can't seem to stream. I've checked the firewall. No success. I'm working on a fix with Chat GPT and Claude, but no success. I've resorted for the time being to restoring my computer from a backup.

I'm posting this as a warning for others. Perhaps others have (or will) run into this issue and perhaps a fix can be recommended.

Hi Glenn, that Solo helped make a lot of people happy that they could still use their hardware. I don't have a Mac so I can't test this myself. A couple of questions.

1. Does Slinger respond at all when you try to make a connection? See if we can narrow the problem down to an innie or outie issue
2. What app are you using to the setup the stream?
3. Is this just running on your local network or are you trying to stream over the Internet?

One thing you might try is to make sure all your python packages are up to date.
I'd like to help you get this going if possible.

Hi Gerry,
I just noticed your response in my inbox.

I found the issue and solved it with the help of Claude AI. The python version I was using had an expired certificate and the Mac OS update thought the slinger.py was malware, so it listed that file as "quarantined". Using some terminal commands, I took it out of the quarantine listing and updated the python version to one with a newer valid certificate. In recent days, some of the Mac online sites have reported that this MacOS update got stricter regarding undisclosed software.

All is working now.

Gerry, I can't begin to tell you how much pleasure your slinger hack has given me and wife over the past 4 years. We love watching sports when on vacation and with the use of a wireguard vpn server on my home network, we're always a click away from our TV!
