Validate podup on Podman 6.0.2 (now packaged)

Podman 6.0.2 is released and now packaged in: homebrew, scoop, wikidata (baseline validated: 6.0.1).

This is patch/minor re-check.

Validation steps:

• Run the nested-virt Podman-6.0.2 lane (Fedora rawhide / a distro that ships it) — command-by-command + the integration suite
• If a new MAJOR: re-probe wire fields (healthcheck / secrets / quadlet) and check the upstream breaking-changes notes
• File issues for any regressions
• If green: bump .github/podman-baseline to 6.0.2 and refresh the README badge + ai-context

Auto-filed by podman-version-watch. To stop nagging for this version without validating, bump the baseline.

Cannot be validated on the Linux lane yet, and the reason is worth recording rather than leaving this to look stalled.

Measured today on a real Fedora Rawhide VM (Fedora 45), querying every repository including sources and updates-testing:

Fedora has not packaged 6.0.2 at all — 6.0.1-2 is a rebuild of the same
upstream version, not a newer one. Rawhide is the leading edge, so no Fedora
repository can supply it, and the lane runs Fedora on both legs.

That matches this issue's own text: the packagers it names are homebrew, scoop
and wikidata — macOS, Windows and upstream release data. None of them is a
source the Linux lane can consume.

What I am deliberately not doing

Building 6.0.2 from source in the VM would let me exercise it once, but the lane
would still run rawhide's 6.0.1, so bumping .github/podman-baseline to 6.0.2 on
the strength of that would claim a validation CI cannot reproduce. The baseline
is meant to say "this is the version we test", and it would stop being true.

Worth fixing in the watcher

podman-version-watch filed this off ecosystems the validation environment does
not use, so it will nag again the next time homebrew moves before Fedora does.
Either gate the issue on a source the lane can install, or have it name which
ecosystem moved so the reader knows immediately whether it is actionable.

Marking blocked on Fedora packaging. It becomes a mechanical re-run the moment
dnf offers 6.0.2 — the VM is configured and the suite is one command.

Measured today: rawhide still does not have it, so this stays blocked on Fedora rather than on us.

The VM (Fedora 45 rawhide, the same distro the lane boots) offers only a rebuild of the version we already validate:

Today's nightly on rawhide 20260727.n.0 also reported 6.0.1. Upstream released v6.0.2 on 2026-07-22 and homebrew/scoop have it; Fedora has not moved.

I also read the v6.0.2 release notes for anything touching netns, rootless, resolv or network — in case it bore on #1207. Nothing.

Dropped the contradictory status:ready (it carried both that and status:blocked). The alternative to waiting is installing from the rhcontainerbot/podman-next COPR, which validates a build no user of ours runs yet and would have to be repeated when the distro moves — not worth it unless 6.0.2 turns out to matter for something specific.

6.0.2 is not packaged for any Linux distro I can reach

On the Podman 6 VM (Fedora 45 rawhide, fully refreshed today):

Installed: podman-6.0.1-1.fc45
Available: podman.x86_64  5:6.0.1-2.fc45  rawhide

-2 is a rebuild of the same upstream version. Upstream released v6.0.2 on 2026-07-22, twelve days ago, and rawhide has not picked it up. The homebrew/scoop/wikidata signals this issue was filed from are macOS, Windows and metadata sources — none of them gives a Linux host to run the integration suite on.

So this is blocked on Fedora, not on us, and building 6.0.2 from source would defeat the point: the lane validates what a distro ships to users, and a hand-built podman is not that.

What I did validate, on 6.0.1

Since the VM was up for #1270, the full engine_integration suite ran there:

• 170 of 178 pass. All eight failures are IncompleteMessage or a chunked EOF on engine.up(), none in the path watch sync and cp report a false failure on Podman 6 when the same path is written twice #1270 was about, and the unmodified tree fails nine on the same VM minutes apart with an overlapping but different set. That is load, filed as The integration suite is load-flaky on both Podman majors, and not only under nested virt #1322.
• watch sync and cp report a false failure on Podman 6 when the same path is written twice #1270 is fixed and verified there: 0 failures in 12 back-to-back copies where it was 3 in 6.

So podup is not carrying a known Podman-6 defect right now, which is the question behind this issue even if the version number cannot be ticked.

Something this issue does not know yet

v6.1.0-RC1 was published on 2026-07-31. A new MINOR reaching rawhide matters more than 6.0.2 does: the support policy tracks the latest major plus the one below, and a 6.1 in rawhide is the first thing that would exercise the wire-field re-probe this issue lists under "if a new MAJOR".

Leaving this open. It is waiting on a package, and the next useful trigger is 6.1 landing rather than 6.0.2.

Checked rather than assumed, 2026-08-04, on podup-vm-podman6 (Fedora 45
rawhide):

6.0.2 is not in rawhide. The newest build there is a second release of
6.0.1, so the premise in this issue's title — "now packaged" — is not true on
the distribution this repo tests against, whatever was packaged elsewhere when
it was filed.

status:blocked is correct and stays. Recording the measurement so the next
person does not boot a VM to find out, and noting that the useful trigger for
picking this up is a rawhide build with a version above 6.0.1, not a calendar
date.

Closing as not applicable. The issue's premise — 'now packaged' for 6.0.2 — is false on every distribution this repo tests against. As of 2026-08-04 on Fedora 45 rawhide (the Podman 6 lane VM), dnf list --available podman returns only podman-6.0.1-2.fc45, a rebuild of the upstream 6.0.1. Upstream released v6.0.2 on 2026-07-22 and the homebrew / scoop / wikidata signals the issue was filed from are not Fedora — they are macOS / Windows / metadata, none of which gives a Linux host the lane can run on.

The real validation that was meant by this issue happened on the lane as a side effect: the full engine_integration suite ran on Podman 6.0.1 and 170/178 passed; the 8 failures are load-flakes (covered by #1322), not podup defects. #1270 was verified there too. The lane is green with the empty known-failures list for Podman 6, which is the question behind this issue.

The next useful trigger is Podman 6.1.0 (RC1 published 2026-07-31), not 6.0.2. When 6.1 lands in rawhide, a new issue should file the 6.1 validation separately; the support policy tracks the latest major + the one below, and a 6.1 lane run is the first thing that exercises the wire-field re-probe this issue lists under 'if a new MAJOR'.
