Update mechanism for Windows and Mac

Mendeley Update-Installer only working on Linux.
Cmake does not generate a makefile on Windows.

I experimented with this a bit and found that you can change cmake's behaviour. When running cmake . in the terminal/console it will generate files for Visual Studio only, i.e. no Makefiles. If you however run the cmake GUI, you can easily specify a generator, e.g. Visual Studio X, Unix Makefiles, MinGW Makefiles etc.

Using Visual Studio Express I was able to build updater.exe and zip-tool.exe. The generators MinGW Makefiles and Unix Makefiles did not work, as I have neither MinGW nor Make installed.

cmake also has a target for "NMake Makefiles"

Now that the updater from Mendeley is working, I need further material e.g. a config file specifying how the application's files should be partitioned into packages as a .json - file.
Furthermore I need packages for download which are the new version of the program.

I think this also belongs to your task. Find out what's the best way to perform an update. Mendeley offers client or server calculated patches which would save some traffic compared to a full update.
