[Bug] Extreme instability of speed overall

I've noticed just how unstable the data exchange is, both download and upload speeds. When the exchange happens, it's really fast and fulfilling, but then it goes totally off for a few seconds before having data exchange again, and causes an infinite loop of this happening over and over again.

This is especially noticable during downloading a file, the speed is like a square wave. Going full speed once, then suddenly plummeting down to 0 for a few seconds, then again going full speed.

As said above, most noticable when downloading a file off of the internet, and looking at the realtime speed of the proxy.

Bisected this on the same machine — the burst/pause pattern is from the same v1.5→v1.6 regression that's been driving the slowness reports across #113 and #123.

Root cause was a one-line change in eeab6fd that bumped workersPerEndpoint from 3 to 4. That sounds like it should help, but it silently broke the connect_data optimization: the SYN frame stopped bundling the application's first write, forcing every TLS handshake / HTTP request to take an extra ~350 ms round-trip. On bulk downloads, that extra round-trip lands once per active poll cycle and shows up as the square wave you're seeing.

Fixed in #143 (commit 967c385). On the loopback bench, single-session upload went from 4.5 → 22 MB/s (matches v1.5 exactly); the same TTFB win applies to every new connection a download establishes.

I'd appreciate if you could retest the Manjaro update download after the next release (or against main if you build from source) — it should be visibly smoother. If the square wave persists even after the upgrade we should dig further; there may still be a separate download-side issue we haven't bottomed out.

A proper second pass at the underlying race (so we don't lose v1.6's session-open speed) is tracked in #144.

I will absolutely try to benchmark the next release against the same sort of downloads performed in the original issue ASAP, inasmuch as it sounds completely cogent to my ears.
Just a small question though, when are you approximately going to release the new version?

@Kianmhz I've got an update for you;
After some simple benchmarks with new client & server built from the source, without redeploying the script, I'd say that the change is... not as significant as I hoped it'd be. I can notice that the duty cycle of the still existing square wave increasing for sure (I don't quite know though if that's just placebo or not).
To sum it up, I can notice the increased stability, but it's not profound. Although, further and deeper testing is needed which I couldn't do, unfortunately.

v1.7.0 (release notes) ships the fix for the v1.5→v1.6 regression you're seeing.

Two root causes, neither of which we had nailed when v1.6 went out:

1. EnqueueInitialData was prepending bytes instead of appending (#147). When a SOCKS5 app wrote in several small chunks before the SYN drained (TLS handshakes, HTTP request lines, anything with a length prefix), the bytes shipped to the upstream in reverse order. The upstream silently misparsed or errored, and the bench harness's sized sink misread the body — which is why this hid in plain sight since the optimization landed. This is the real cause of "uploads feel broken / sites take forever to load on v1.6."
2. The worker pool collapsed under v1.6's per-bucket scaling (#146). v1.5 ran workersPerEndpoint × len(endpoints) workers; v1.6 changed it to (workersPerEndpoint + idleSlotsPerBucket − 1) × bucketCount, which starved configs with multiple deployments per Google account. v1.7 restores the v1.5-style scaling while keeping v1.6's per-account safety semaphore (so relay returned non-batch payload #56 stays fixed).

Plus a default tweak: idle_slots_per_bucket is now 2 (was 1) for the recommended multi-deployment setup.

Upgrade path: pull v1.7.0 client + server binaries, redeploy apps_script/Code.gs (optional but recommended — picks up the relay-loop guard from #129). No config changes required.

Closing this — please reopen or comment on the v1.7.0 release if you still see the regression after upgrading.
