v1.1 of Kuadrant - Console Plugin Plans

We’re using Discussions as a place to share plans for the Console Plugin for Kuadrant v1.1 and beyond.

Some initial plans for v1.1 and beyond (in no particular order):

• Improve RBAC support throughout the plugin (appropriate error messages, hints at missing permissions etc.): Improve console plugin RBAC functionality #204
• Form views for AuthPolicy and RateLimitPolicy
  • These APIs became v1 late in the release cycle for Kuadrant v1, so we shifted support for form views for editing/managing these policies to a subsequent release: Add form views for AuthPolicy #185
• Observability
  • Add a subset of metrics visualisations to the overview page: Add a sub set of metrics visualisations for the platform engineer to the console plugin (Administrator perspective) #177
• Bugs/UX improvements:
  • Improve the UX for users who are granted restrictive permissions to a single namespace: Weird UX for user with restricted permissions #179
  • Add i18n preloading flag to ConsolePlugin resources - fixes several issues with broken i18n replacements spotted pre v1: ConsolePlugin: add preload flag for i18n #166

v1.2+ of Kuadrant - Console Plugin Plans

• Flag missing dependencies in the console plugin:
  • Flag Kuadrant CR status/conditions for dependencies in the plugin #14
• CI: automate API versioning checks between the kuadrant-operator and the Console Plugin, to flag missing dependencies (e.g. Istio/Envoy Gateway)
  • Automate API version checks between Kuadrant Operator and Console Plugin #74
• Topology
• Add filtering via namespaces: Add namespace filtering for the topology view #104
• Add "Attach Policy" option for GW API resources in the topology view: Topology view: Add an "Attach Policy" option to the actions list #106
• Add policy status & conditions to the topology view: Policy topology: add status/conditions #108
• Policy list views: add additional filtering options (e.g. name, kind, status + conditions):

• More Gateway API UI:
  • HTTPRoute resource view:
    • At-a-glance of hosts for HTTPRoutes, similar to existing routes/ingress
    • Bi-directional linking to associated Gateways etc
  • Gateway resource view
    • In addition to existing "attached policies" sub-view, look to have an enhanced Gateway resource view with associated HTTPRoutes, attached policies etc. metrics + health
  • Custom creation/edit form views for Gateway and HTTPRoute resources
  • Topology view for Gateway + HTTPRoute only resources (e.g. not Kuadrant exclusive)
  • Gateway traffic visualisation? Likely looking at collab with other plugins
