Dune system available on a real vehicle

How are you guys? I want to use the dune system for my real vehicle. Is it really customized and sent to the vehicle or is it open source for research only, i.e. software?

Hi there!
It is not just a research project. We use it on all of our vehicles and systems (www.lsts.pt) and it is also in commercial vehicles (witch needs a comercial licence from us) like our spin-off https://www.oceanscan-mst.com/ or https://www.evologics.com/sonobot-5-system to name a few.

To use commercially it is needed a comercial licence from us, otherwise you are free to use it.

Excuse me, i also have a couple of questions about getting started with the DUNE system:
1.What is the standard procedure for defining a new vehicle (either real or simulated) within the DUNE framework? How do I get the system to recognize my specific vehicle for command and control ?
2.Before deploying to actual hardware, how can I thoroughly test and verify that my control system is functioning correctly and as expected within the DUNE simulation environment ?

To define a new vehicle, you will need to create a configuration file for it.
You can find examples in the etc/ directory. Take a look at the lauv-nemo-1.ini.

In the .ini file, you will need to define the General parameters of your vehicle and declare the tasks you need.
Regarding the Simulation, you will need to set the Simulator settings according to your vehicle specifications and run DUNE in Simulation.

You can start by "playing around" with a vehicle that already exists and then move to the creation of your vehicle file.
To create the file for your vehicle and for it to work with Neptus and so on, your vehicle will need its own IMC address. For that, you need to update the IMC addresses file and then update the IMC on DUNE and NEPTUS (this may be a lot of work, so it's simpler if you give your vehicle a name that already exists, you specify it on the parameter "Vehicle" under the section "[General]").
