Gray non functional first word suggestions

The suggestions go gray when I go to a new line using enter key.

It has done this generally but now I is very consistent. Last night after upgrade and restoring from a HeliBoard backup it didn't do it that much, usually deleting a return would result in active suggestions.

Now after clearing data and restoring from its own backup the suggestions only become active after I enter a space.

This is happening in Obsidian, Markor, and here on GitHub, I didn't test others.

OK, now it is behaving like it did last night.

On a fresh return or new line I get gray suggestions. If I hit space then they are active. Hit space then delete and they are still active at the beginning of the new line, even if I delete the empty lines. Adding an extra line then delete activates them as well.

Essentially to get first word suggestions to work on a new line I have to add an extra return and then delete that extra line.

Forgot to mention that I am using a custom dictionary that has no bigrams, however, I do have a lot of internal next word suggestions built up.

the grey first word suggestion were added as placeholder on split bar mode since black blank space in between the toolbar and keyboard looked weird, it was purely for aesthetic purpose

But why then do they become active when I backspace?

Or add a space. Furthermore shouldn't first word always be active? Better to offer up something than nothing? So in split mode the user ought to always get active next word suggestions to make that dead space useful. 🤷🏻‍♂️

No they differ.

There seems to be some odd thing going on.

When I select a word from the strip and hit space i get gray a lot, now I understand that I don't have next word suggestions built up but there ought to be generic next word populating it, no?

The other is the gray words change, maybe that is intentional but it gives the impression that there is something wrong and the next word suggestion is broken.

Then there are the generic ones that show up when it is gray and I space or delete. This makes sense but doesn't make sense that they are gray then active after a space or delete.

But if the paragraph above has no punctuation then there are unique words after doing the delete or space thing. Which again demonstrates that for some reason the next word suggestions go offline. 🤷🏻‍♂️
