This wasn't clear to me when I read it the first time, I also perceived this this as quite a harsh introduction.

You stated in the linked PR that for some people the "be excellent" is not enough and too generic. However, this sentence feels equally generic to me, just a more harsh wording.

I noticed this when I just tried to improve the wording, but it's really hard to improve the wording without knowing what your intention/goal of including this is.

Is it something like this? "when multiple people call your out for your behaviour, take a break and reflect on it?"
