In a haunted building you can simply place a hopper below a chest to extract it's loot.
That way you can skip clearing the building entirely. That's probably not intentional.

yes I'm aware of this. However, I see no way to avoid this

I wonder, is it at all possible to put loot in the chests AFTER the monsters have been slain, rather than when they spawn? You know how monsters track which building they came from? Maybe you could do the same for chests and populate them with loot when the last monster is killed. (Or when you open it for the first time afyer the building has been cleared, so luck effects can apply)

That also has some problems. If players are aware of that they can just fill an entire floor with chests before killing the monsters and get TONS of loot that way

I meant attaching special NBT tags to chests that binds them to the building (like you do for the mobs) to ensure that only those chests get loot when the building is clear.

Alternatively, you could add your very own chest block that looks exactly like a vanilla chest but cannot output items until the building is clear. But the mod currently does not add new blocks/items, so Imagine you might want to keep it that way.

I don't know if it's a general purpose solution, but I found a workaround was to use LootR, the chests don't populate till they are opened and are per-player, so things like hoppers and crafting stations don't avoid the haunted mechanic. Sorry if this doesn't help the mod creator resolve the issue.
