Enhancement Request: Menu Option to Render Pages Pixel-For-Pixel 4K

I would love to help enhance this application but I don't even know where to start. Is it possible to make the web view take up the whole 3160 x 2180 screen space? This way web pages that take large amount of screen space don't require scrolling?

Any help pointing me how to do this would be appreciated.

Apple applications tend to not treat extra pixels as "more space" but instead as more resolution. In other words, the website is probably rendering at 1920x1080 at "retina" resolution (crisper image). Have you tried using the menu to switch to desktop mode and disable scale pages to fit to get more "usable space"?

The page is rendering its full content but inside a scrollview which appears to be 1920x1080.
I would much prefer that the page is 4K before any scrolling happens.

Hi, are you saying the scroll view does not fill your screen or that the scroll view renders content larger than you expect? Could you provide a screenshot to indicate the behavior you’re describing?

What I am saying is that I have a website that is 3840 x 2160 pixels. Even though I have a 4K tv and it’s set to 4K mode the web browser only shows 1920 x 1080 content and I must scroll to see the rest of the website.

Ah yes, that would be what I mentioned before: Apple doesn’t see more pixels as more space but as more resolution. If you wanted to implement such functionality, you could add another menu item to scale pages to “4K” resolution and use that setting to set the web view’s scale factor to 0.5. You could look at how scale pages to fit is implemented and base directly off that.

Ok so if I understand what you are saying if I scale the webview to 1/2 it’s size then I will be able to get 4K pixels into the apple tv’s webview?

Would you be opposed to this not being a setting but just the defined behavior on a 4K enabled device? For example using the UIScreenMode and or UIScreen scale factor to detect the resolution of the display and scale the content accordingly. So on a 4K monitor with a 4K Apple TV it would render the content at .5 scale. However on an Apple TV 4K with a 1080P tv it would render at 1.0 scale. Finally on a 4K Apple TV with a 4K monitor when the video format was 1080 P it would also display at 1.0 scale factor.

I would be opposed to making that the default behavior. Think about a website on a “retina” iPhone versus a non-retina iPhone: it displays at the same “size” (it shows the same amount of content) just at a higher resolution. That is the apple belief about high resolution displays and I agree with that paradigm. In most cases people don’t want their content to be very small just because they’re on a hi-res display. If you’d like to add a menu option to enable this mode, you’re welcome to (settings are remembered between sessions). Though you may consider this an issue, this is desired behavior. I would accept a PR with the menu option described to provide your desired behavior, however, if you’d like to write one.
