Trailers?

Jellyfin for Roku has never had the trailers feature available. Any chance you can add that in?

Hi @tankmaster077, the trailers button is there and when pressed, will play a trailer file from the same folder as your media. If you want a trailer to open in YouTube, it's just not possible, Roku doesn't have the capability to allow me to open the YouTube app from another app AND pass it the URL to the video. I really tried to get that going but it's simply just an OS limitation, I'm sorry.

So no trailers for Seer items? I know we can add local trailers for stuff in library and I am fine with that. Was hoping there was a way for Seer trailers as well.

Jellyfin for Roku has supported trailers since version 1.6.0: https://github.com/jellyfin-archive/jellyfin-roku-legacy/releases/tag/v1.6.0

As @RadicalMuffinMan mentioned, it's only for local trailers, meaning the trailers served by Jellyfin.

While there MAY be a method to deeplink to a YouTube video, there is no method to return the user back to Jellyfin from YouTube. Additionally, it's against YouTube TOS to embed the video inside another Roku video player.

This is news for me. Some questions if you would be so kind as to provide answers.

Can you explain the format the local trailers need to be in? Naming scheme or folder structure?

Does the trailer button only show up on jellyfin movie page when a local trailer video file exists?

Is there a way to automate downloads of trailers for the jellyfin library? A plugin perhaps? Or a script?

I'm fine with a local trailers solution as long as there's as way to automate it.

Trailers follow the same conventions as other extras: https://jellyfin.org/docs/general/server/media/movies/#extras

Yes. Here's a demo video showing a movie that doesn't have a trailer and one that does.

That's a question for someone else to take, I just make the Roku client.
