Play any video with a highend audio track (e.g. TrueHD Atmos 7.1).

Result: Playback fails with the following error:

When checking the capabilities in the options menu:

Playback works correctly with above audio codecs.
The reported capabilities seem incorrect? For example, the S95D should support TrueHD Atmos.

Interestingly, the same files play without any issues in Jellyfin-Tizen.

Expected behavior:
The video should play normally, even if the audio codec is not directly supported, since it works correctly in Jellyfin-Tizen.

Looks like Samsung TVs (Tizen, e.g. Samsung S95D) don’t support TrueHD / DTS-HD in internal apps!

In Jellyfin for Tizen the same files play fine but on the Jellyfin server side you can see video is direct play while audio gets transcoded from TrueHD/DTS-HD to EAC3/AC3, so video stays lossless and only audio is converted.
So it looks like moonfin is trying to direct play audio without falling back to transcoding, and that’s why it crashes.

TL;DR Samsung supports TrueHD/DTS-HD only via external devices, not in Tizen apps, so audio transcoding needs to be forced.

To add to this, it's not just TrueHD/DTS transcoding but also if you try adding subtitles. Seems Direct Stream play is completely broken. I'm on Tizen 5.0 and get a sligthly different error: "Playback Error - Stream preparation timed out"

Did some digging on this.
No FFmpeg logs are created for failing movies, so Moonfin stops before reaching the server.

Current hypothesis:
Moonfin correctly excludes TrueHD from direct play (per Samsung specs), but the Tizen device profile seens to lack a transcode/remux path for mkv+hevc+truehd cases. Jellyfin sees no matching profile → no TranscodingUrl → client throws "No playback URL available" → 0ms stop. Likely same for DTS.

Likely fix:
Add explicit transcode/remux coverage for unsupported audio codecs such as TrueHD and DTS, (video passthrough + audio transcode where possible), instead of relying on the generic profile to catch them.

Bonus finding:
dolbyAtmos: false is hardcoded — shouldn't this detect via webapis.avinfo.isDolbyAtmosSupport() for newer eARC TVs? Pretty sure even my 2019 TV can passthrough Atmos. Can open a separate bug on this if needed.

Haha humans prove superior once again. I should have checked the docs more closely before posting. My bad.

That said, I’ve tested the Atmos passthrough on my end and it’s working correctly via eARC, so you can safely ignore my remarks regarding the Atmos finding. (No idea how given the apparent hardcode, but it's working!)

The real issue is still open: Moonfin playback is failing for DTS and TrueHD likely related to how transcoding/remuxing is handled for those codecs.

Happy to test something if you need a tester!
