[Discussion] Defining our Session/Keynote for Africa CyberFest Nigeria (May 1st) #10

Description

@kurtiz

We have been officially invited to represent OSSAfrica at Africa CyberFest in Nigeria this coming May. This is a strategic opportunity to showcase our leadership in open-source security and advocate for the standards we are building.

To ensure we are well-represented, we need to decide on the specific topic, speakers, and core message of our session. This should align directly with our mission of securing the African open-source ecosystem.

Strategic Alignment

Our participation should reflect the OSSAfrica Mission & Vision:

  • Capacity Building: Empowering African developers to write secure code.
  • Sovereignty: Reducing reliance on opaque proprietary systems through vetted open source.
  • Community Standards: Establishing security best practices (like our secret rotation policies) across regional projects.

Proposed Discussion Points

I’d like the core team to weigh in on the following:

  1. The Topic: Should we focus on Supply Chain Security (e.g., scoring agent skills/SkillGuard), Policy Frameworks for African CSIRTs, or a broader "State of Open Source Security in Africa" talk?
  2. The Goal: Is this a technical deep-dive, or a call to action for regional governments and organizations to adopt OSS security standards?

Action Items

  • Brainstorm 3 potential talk titles.
  • Define the primary "Call to Action" for the audience.

Deadline

We need a finalized abstract by 23rd April 2026 to meet the Africa CyberFest organizers' deadline.
