CongressWatch Update — Major Progress

CongressWatch keeps moving.

New progress
• Bill Similarity Engine is built and ran successfully
• The pipeline completed successfully and generated bill similarity data.
• Next step is tuning weights and refining logic for:
• ALEC match detection
• donor interest alignment
• Core engine is no longer theoretical — it’s working.
• fetch_finance.py was rewritten
• Updated to improve CIK mapping
• Goal is to reduce EDGAR false positives
• This should make insider-signal data more accurate and defensible
• fetch_ptr.py was written
• Initial pipeline is now in place for Periodic Transaction Reports (PTR)
• This is the foundation for adding congressional stock trade data into the same member detail structure

Current status

Done / working
• 538 members loaded
• voting records
• FEC finance pulls
• SEC EDGAR pipeline
• anomaly score framework
• frontend profile viewer
• daily GitHub Actions automation
• bill similarity engine built and successfully run

In progress
• tuning bill similarity weights
• improving ALEC-style detection
• donor-interest refinement
• CIK mapping cleanup
• PTR integration

Why this matters

CongressWatch is moving from a concept into a real public accountability platform.
The biggest focus right now is making the data:
• more accurate
• more explainable
• more connected across money, votes, bills, and trades

What’s next
• refine bill similarity scoring
• improve donor interest mapping
• continue PTR / stock trade ingestion
• strengthen member-level detail pages
• improve public visibility
