Docker image builds but fails to run

The Docker images builds with no errors but fails to run (NB: There's no explicit docker run step in the README, but I assume we need one).

This is on MacOS 15.7.3 on Apple Silicon using Podman as a Docker-compatible replacement.

I need to clean up my docs. There's a line earlier about:

docker build -t shesha-sandbox -f src/shesha/sandbox/Dockerfile src/shesha/sandbox/

But I have never used Podman, so I don't know much about it. Trying to learn more. “Fails to run” can mean a few different things and the responses from the following will tell us which one (note: these are from ChatGPT, so assume that I'm an idiot).

Podman VM status (macOS):

podman machine list
podman machine start

Confirm the image exists:

podman images | grep -E 'shesha-sandbox|REPOSITORY'

Build + the ping test (Podman equivalent of the README):

podman build -t shesha-sandbox -f src/shesha/sandbox/Dockerfile src/shesha/sandbox/

If podman run fails, please paste:

Since you’re on Apple Silicon, also paste:

OK, I did this:

OK, still trying to figure this out. My code, internally, relies on a docker client and uses docker libraries. Today is the first day I've heard about podman. I think you need to set DOCKER_HOST.

From what I can tell from the podman docs:

export DOCKER_HOST="unix://$(podman machine inspect --format '{{.ConnectionInfo.PodmanSocket.Path}}')"

If that prints True, re-run:
