From 2e585dec9be5d8405563eb25775effb5cb993e7a Mon Sep 17 00:00:00 2001 From: Ranxy <3327004+Ranxy@users.noreply.github.com> Date: Mon, 14 Sep 2026 15:42:54 +0800 Subject: [PATCH 1/2] feat(lineage): add TiDB and MariaDB lineage analyzers Add backend/plugin/lineage/{tidb,mariadb}, each a dialect copy of the omni-backed MySQL analyzer using omni's per-dialect parser and typed AST, and register Engine_TIDB / Engine_MARIADB. OceanBase is dropped by decision and stays unsupported. - All three analyzers run the same golden corpus so the dialects stay behaviorally in sync: TiDB 73/73, MariaDB 69/73. - MariaDB records four explicit parser gaps: omni's MariaDB parser rejects join trees nested three or more parentheses deep, which is what mysqldump emits for views. MySQL's parser accepts any depth. - testutil gains RunLineageTestSuitesFromYAMLDirSkipping so a dialect's parser gaps are named in the test rather than hidden by a narrowed corpus. - plan/mysql_family_dialect_lineage_plan.md documents the design and findings. Verified: go build ./..., the full hermetic suite, golangci-lint (0 issues), the release build, and make test-integration-mysql against real MySQL 8.4. --- .../plugin/lineage/mariadb/analyze_test.go | 26 + .../lineage/mariadb/analyze_test_helper.go | 23 + backend/plugin/lineage/mariadb/analyzer.go | 1491 +++++++++++++++++ .../plugin/lineage/mariadb/hardfail_test.go | 28 + .../lineage/testutil/lineage_test_helper.go | 18 +- backend/plugin/lineage/tidb/analyze_test.go | 13 + .../lineage/tidb/analyze_test_helper.go | 23 + backend/plugin/lineage/tidb/analyzer.go | 1491 +++++++++++++++++ backend/plugin/lineage/tidb/hardfail_test.go | 28 + backend/server/ultimate.go | 2 + plan/mysql_family_dialect_lineage_plan.md | 103 ++ plan/mysql_omni_parser_migration_plan.md | 11 +- 12 files changed, 3252 insertions(+), 5 deletions(-) create mode 100644 backend/plugin/lineage/mariadb/analyze_test.go create mode 100644 backend/plugin/lineage/mariadb/analyze_test_helper.go create mode 100644 backend/plugin/lineage/mariadb/analyzer.go create mode 100644 backend/plugin/lineage/mariadb/hardfail_test.go create mode 100644 backend/plugin/lineage/tidb/analyze_test.go create mode 100644 backend/plugin/lineage/tidb/analyze_test_helper.go create mode 100644 backend/plugin/lineage/tidb/analyzer.go create mode 100644 backend/plugin/lineage/tidb/hardfail_test.go create mode 100644 plan/mysql_family_dialect_lineage_plan.md diff --git a/backend/plugin/lineage/mariadb/analyze_test.go b/backend/plugin/lineage/mariadb/analyze_test.go new file mode 100644 index 0000000..b72ae0e --- /dev/null +++ b/backend/plugin/lineage/mariadb/analyze_test.go @@ -0,0 +1,26 @@ +package mariadb + +import ( + "testing" + + "github.com/Ranxy/metaxisdata/backend/plugin/lineage/testutil" +) + +// knownParserGaps lists shared-corpus cases omni's MariaDB parser cannot parse +// yet: a join tree nested in three or more parentheses, e.g. +// `FROM (((a JOIN b ON ...)))`, which is what mysqldump emits for views. omni's +// MySQL parser accepts any depth; the MariaDB parser stops at two. lineage dialects (MySQL-family analyzers) + +> **Status: implemented.** TiDB and MariaDB analyzers landed as their own +> packages, modeled on the omni-backed MySQL analyzer. OceanBase is dropped. + +## TL;DR + +The MySQL analyzer (`backend/plugin/lineage/mysql`) is built on +`github.com/bytebase/omni`'s MySQL parser + typed AST. This plan adds the two +remaining MySQL-family dialects, **one package each**, because omni ships a +separate parser and AST per dialect: + +| Engine | Package | omni parser + AST | Corpus | +| --- | --- | --- | --- | +| `MYSQL` | `backend/plugin/lineage/mysql` | `omni/mysql/{parser,ast}` | 73/73 | +| `TIDB` | `backend/plugin/lineage/tidb` | `omni/tidb/{parser,ast}` | 73/73 | +| `MARIADB` | `backend/plugin/lineage/mariadb` | `omni/mariadb/{parser,ast}` | 69/73 (4 skipped) | +| `OCEANBASE` | — | — | **dropped, no analyzer** | + +## Decisions + +- **One package per dialect.** omni's dialect ASTs already diverge (MariaDB adds + `Returning`/`ForPortionOf`/temporal `SystemTime`; TiDB omits + `TableSource`/`ValuesSource`/`Quantifier`), so each package is the place for + dialect-specific handling. A single shared analyzer parameterised over the AST + is not expressible in Go without an adapter/IR layer, which the MySQL migration + deliberately avoided. +- **Dialect copies, not a generator.** `tidb/analyzer.go` and + `mariadb/analyzer.go` are copies of `mysql/analyzer.go` differing only in the + package clause, the two omni import paths, and the registered engine. The + traversal is source-compatible because every AST difference is an addition or + removal of fields the analyzer does not read (verified type by type). +- **The shared golden corpus is the sync guard.** All three packages run the same + statements from `backend/plugin/lineage/mysql/testdata/analyze/` (73 cases). + Behavioral drift between the dialects fails a test rather than a code review. +- **Parser gaps are explicit, never silent.** Where a dialect's omni parser + cannot parse a corpus statement, the package names it in a `knownParserGaps` + map passed to `testutil.RunLineageTestSuitesFromYAMLDirSkipping`, with a comment + explaining why. +- **OceanBase has no analyzer.** `Engine_OCEANBASE` resolves to + `ErrorEngineNotSupported`; the runner records a deliberate per-object skip. + OceanBase is out of scope by decision, not pending work. + +## Findings + +### AST compatibility (what made the copies possible) + +Type-by-type comparison of `mysql/ast` against `tidb/ast` and `mariadb/ast` for +every node the analyzer touches showed only additive/removable differences: + +- `SelectStmt`: TiDB lacks `TableSource`/`ValuesSource` (unused by the analyzer). +- `InsertStmt`/`DeleteStmt`/`CreateTableStmt`: MariaDB adds `Returning`, + `ForPortionOf`, period columns (unused). +- `UpdateStmt`: MariaDB adds `ForPortionOf` (unused). +- `LoadDataStmt`: TiDB/MariaDB lack the Aurora S3 fields (unused). +- `SubqueryExpr`: TiDB lacks `Quantifier` (unused). +- `OrderByItem`: TiDB lacks `Direction`; only `Expr` is read. +- `TableRef`: MariaDB adds `SystemTime` (unused). + +No field the analyzer reads is renamed or removed, so the traversal compiles and +behaves identically on all three. + +### MariaDB parser gap: join trees nested three or more parentheses deep + +omni's MariaDB parser accepts a parenthesised join tree nested up to **two** +levels; the third level fails with +`expected SELECT, TABLE, VALUES, or '('`. omni's MySQL parser accepts any depth: + +``` +SELECT * FROM (t1 JOIN t2 ON ...) mysql=ok mariadb=ok +SELECT * FROM ((t1 JOIN t2 ON ...)) mysql=ok mariadb=ok +SELECT * FROM (((t1 JOIN t2 ON ...))) mysql=ok mariadb=FAIL +SELECT * FROM (((t1 JOIN t2 ON ...)) LEFT JOIN t3 ON ...) mysql=ok mariadb=FAIL +``` + +This matters in production: **mysqldump emits three-level parenthesised join +trees for views**, so such MariaDB views hard-fail lineage analysis (per the +hard-fail parse policy) until omni's parser is fixed. The four affected corpus +cases are listed in `backend/plugin/lineage/mariadb/analyze_test.go` +(`knownParserGaps`) so the gap is visible and testable, not hidden by a narrowed +corpus. + +## Verification + +1. `go test ./backend/plugin/lineage/... -count=1` — TiDB 73/73, MariaDB 69/73 + (4 recorded gaps), MySQL unchanged. +2. `go test ./... -count=1` (hermetic) green. +3. `golangci-lint run --allow-parallel-runners` clean; `gofmt -l` clean. +4. Release build. +5. Registration: `backend/server/ultimate.go` blank-imports all four lineage + packages, so `MYSQL`/`TIDB`/`MARIADB` resolve to their analyzers and + `OCEANBASE` resolves to `ErrorEngineNotSupported`. + +## Follow-ups + +- **Report the MariaDB nested-paren gap upstream** to `github.com/bytebase/omni`. + When fixed, drop the corresponding entries from `knownParserGaps` and the corpus + count returns to 73/73. +- **Dialect-specific lineage** (not needed for parity): MariaDB `RETURNING`, + application-time `FOR PORTION OF`, system-versioned `FOR SYSTEM_TIME`. +- **Benchmarks** for the two dialects (the MySQL package has them) if dialect + performance needs tracking. +- **OceanBase** stays unsupported until explicitly re-scoped. diff --git a/plan/mysql_omni_parser_migration_plan.md b/plan/mysql_omni_parser_migration_plan.md index 9da8df7..fa9e3dd 100644 --- a/plan/mysql_omni_parser_migration_plan.md +++ b/plan/mysql_omni_parser_migration_plan.md @@ -141,10 +141,13 @@ Recorded divergences from the legacy analyzer: ### Out of scope (separate plans) -- **MariaDB, TiDB, OceanBase.** They keep sharing the current ANTLR analyzer - only until this plan's cutover; after that they have no analyzer until their - own migrations land. From ec8091b5d66939207eeb7208193e5fd16099d338 Mon Sep 17 00:00:00 2001 From: Ranxy <3327004+Ranxy@users.noreply.github.com> Date: Mon, 14 Sep 2026 16:45:53 +0800 Subject: [PATCH 2/2] test(lineage): cover TiDB and MariaDB dialect-specific SQL Add a golden corpus per dialect, run alongside the shared MySQL corpus, so each dialect's own syntax is exercised rather than only the dialect-neutral subset. MariaDB: system-versioned FOR SYSTEM_TIME in all four temporal forms, with and without an alias. Note the MariaDB syntax is `table FOR SYSTEM_TIME ... [AS] alias`, so the alias follows the temporal clause; a temporal base table inside a derived table, and a temporal table joined with an alias, are covered too. Also INSERT/REPLACE/DELETE ... RETURNING, FOR PORTION OF on UPDATE/DELETE, CREATE OR REPLACE VIEW, INTERSECT/EXCEPT, sequence expressions, JSON_EXTRACT, NATURAL JOIN. TiDB: READ_FROM_STORAGE / SET_VAR / HASH_JOIN hints, PARTITION selection, INSERT IGNORE, REPLACE ... SELECT, ON DUPLICATE KEY UPDATE ... VALUES(), FOR UPDATE, LOCK IN SHARE MODE, INSERT ... SELECT *, multi-table DELETE/UPDATE, INTERSECT/EXCEPT, CREATE OR REPLACE VIEW. Both dialect packages now run two corpora (shared + own) via a dialectCorpusDir helper. Every form was validated against a real MariaDB 11.8 server. One omni MariaDB parser gap remains and is deliberately not covered: applying FOR SYSTEM_TIME to a derived table (`FROM (subquery) FOR SYSTEM_TIME ... AS alias`), which MariaDB accepts but omni rejects. --- .../plugin/lineage/mariadb/analyze_test.go | 1 + .../lineage/mariadb/analyze_test_helper.go | 6 + .../01_test_mariadb_features_table.yaml | 240 ++++++++++++++++++ backend/plugin/lineage/tidb/analyze_test.go | 1 + .../lineage/tidb/analyze_test_helper.go | 6 + .../analyze/01_test_tidb_features_table.yaml | 194 ++++++++++++++ 6 files changed, 448 insertions(+) create mode 100644 backend/plugin/lineage/mariadb/testdata/analyze/01_test_mariadb_features_table.yaml create mode 100644 backend/plugin/lineage/tidb/testdata/analyze/01_test_tidb_features_table.yaml diff --git a/backend/plugin/lineage/mariadb/analyze_test.go b/backend/plugin/lineage/mariadb/analyze_test.go index b72ae0e..539db70 100644 --- a/backend/plugin/lineage/mariadb/analyze_test.go +++ b/backend/plugin/lineage/mariadb/analyze_test.go @@ -23,4 +23,5 @@ var knownParserGaps = map[string]bool{ // analyzer, minus statements the MariaDB parser cannot parse yet. func TestAnalyzeYAML(t *testing.T) { testutil.RunLineageTestSuitesFromYAMLDirSkipping(t, sharedCorpusDir(), analyzeSQL, knownParserGaps) + testutil.RunLineageTestSuitesFromYAMLDir(t, dialectCorpusDir(), analyzeSQL) } diff --git a/backend/plugin/lineage/mariadb/analyze_test_helper.go b/backend/plugin/lineage/mariadb/analyze_test_helper.go index af0c217..dd97186 100644 --- a/backend/plugin/lineage/mariadb/analyze_test_helper.go +++ b/backend/plugin/lineage/mariadb/analyze_test_helper.go @@ -14,6 +14,12 @@ func analyzeSQL(sql string, cat catalog.Provide) ([]model.ColumnRelation, error) return NewAnalyzer(context.TODO(), sql, cat).AnalyzeRelations() } +// dialectCorpusDir locates this dialect's own golden corpus. +func dialectCorpusDir() string { + _, filename, _, _ := runtime.Caller(0) + return filepath.Join(filepath.Dir(filename), "testdata", "analyze") +} + // sharedCorpusDir locates the MySQL golden corpus.
