Questions to Jitsi Conference Calls Provider

When is a video call ended ? When all participants hang up ? Does the status of the video call change ?
For us it looks like this after a video call:
All participants hang up. However, the video call is still actively visible afterwards. How can this be ended correctly ?

It would be expected that the video call is terminated and the status changes.

Is this a bug or something I can change in the (file) settings ?

The Jitsi app doesn't detect when the call has ended. Rocket.Chat will flag the calls as ended after a 24 hours timeout.

This means that you have no influence on this setting ?
The fact that video calls are open for 24 hours is irritating for users.
Do you know if it is possible to edit the flag? For us, for example, 2 hours would be quite enough.

Couldn't you introduce another button in Rocket.Chat, by which the call is closed ? And accordingly for all participants then also displayed ?

We originally didn't intend to have an "end" button on rocket.chat because most providers can detect when the call is over and end it through API, but the jitsi app is not doing that.

I'll discuss with the team if we should reconsider a dedicated end button or maybe have this app add one for itself only

Adding a button to end a call is not the ideal solution from the product standpoint. Like @pierre-lehnen-rc mentioned, we didn't plan to add an end button because most of the providers support detecting when the call is over.

I will open an internal ticket to check if we can let the admin choose the timeout to flag ended calls within the Jitsi settings. It's also not ideal, but I believe it can improve the experience a little.

I did find a solution to this problem. Now it is displayed correctly as "call ended" immediately when the last user leaves the videoconference and jitsi destroys the room.

However this works only in private jitsi instances you self-host on your own machine. It will not work with public instances as you need to modify the way your Jitsi installation behaves.

You need to:

• Write a prosody module in LUA that reacts to the hook muc-room-destroyed and sends a HTTP request
• Add this module to the site configuration (file has your site name in conf.d usually) of the prosody installation on your jitsi host (not the global configuration)
• Host a private version of this app and add a HTTP Endpoint similar to the solution BigBlueButton uses to the code

Is anyone interested that I try to make a pull request about this or is the issue stale by now?
