The title mostly explains what's wrong. Also, sometimes the overlay updates freezes and it won't work again until the app is opened. Maybe it's related to the app being active or in the background?
This happens no matter whether the app is locked in RAM or not. The intervals before it freezes are random. It may work for a few minutes or almost an hour before freezing.
