sometimes it freezes when trying to send a message

Describe the bug

if i type a message and hit send to fast, the UI sometimes freezes and will take a few secs to unfreeze until i can send the message

Reproduction

trying to type a message quickly and hitting send, will sometimes reproduce this.

Expected behavior
