Hey how is damping curve plotted without measuring amplitude

The code does not directly measure the amplitude of the pendulum's swing, which is typically necessary to plot a damping curve. A damping curve shows how the amplitude of the pendulum's oscillations decreases over time due to energy loss (e.g., from air resistance or friction). To plot such a curve without directly measuring the amplitude, you can infer the amplitude from the time period of the swings or the system's energy. However, we did not do this with the original approach. Instead, we plotted a sine wave with a decaying period, which visually represents how the system behaves over time.

Upon reflection, this approach is not physically well-motivated, as it does not accurately model the relationship between the pendulum's amplitude and its period. I can't recall why we chose that method at the time, as it was quite some time ago. However, you can now rewrite the code to infer the amplitudes from the time measurements by assuming an exponential decay model. This will allow us to plot a more accurate and physically meaningful damping curve.

Additionally, if you are using a board that supports Python (such as a Raspberry Pi or a microcontroller running MicroPython), you can leverage libraries like SciPy for advanced tasks such as curve fitting, filtering, and data analysis. These tools can significantly improve the accuracy and quality of your damping curve.
