Version 2.1.0 svchost.exe "Access denied"

Hi, just upgrade to version 2.1.0 on Windows 11. I get red lines with permission denied on certain system processes (for example C:\Windows\system32\svchost.exe) that I try to apply masks to. CPUSetSetter was run with Administrator privileges.

I didn't get these errors with version 2.0.1. I reverted to the older version to check and indeed, no permission denied errors if run with Administrator privileges.

I am running both without installation (the zip file download).

I have confirmed your finding and am getting the same. I have been able to nail down the cause exactly; It's not an issue with the code of 2.1.0, but with how the .exe file is built/published.
In 2.0.1, I built/published the app with the PublishSingleFile=true option. Now in 2.1.0, I have decided to set it to false, to make it easier for someone to (for whatever reason) swap out one of the dependencies. That's why 2.0.1's .zip file had a single .exe, and 2.1.0 has a whole bunch of other files.

I never expected it to suddenly not be able to open certain processes anymore. And I honestly don't understand why setting PublishSingleFile=false doesn't allow the user to open svchost.exe anymore. This is some very weird Windows behaviour I was not aware of.

Solution
But! The good news is that the other Release Asset, CPUSetSetter_net9_included.zip, is built with that option set to true. So use that one for now, and it should work for you.
I will use PublishSingleFile=true for all of the Release Assets again in the next release. (Since there is a workaround, I don't want to annoy thousands of people with an "update available" notification immediately, so it'll be in a few weeks)

Is it best to download the net9 included or the installer for win11? as someone that has no idea what Windows\system32\svchost.exe) does.
