    <h2 id="why">Why run a node <a class="anchor" tabindex="-1" href="#why" aria-hidden="true">#</a></h2>
    <p>A node lets you validate the chain yourself instead of trusting a third party, and it gives you full RPC access to explore and broadcast. The Litecoin testnet is small, so it's a friendly first node. MWEB is built into Litecoin Core, so you get that too.</p>

    <h2 id="install">Install <a class="anchor" tabindex="-1" href="#install" aria-hidden="true">#</a></h2>
    <p>Download <strong>Litecoin Core</strong> from the official Litecoin project and install it. It ships two programs you'll use: <code>litecoind</code> (the daemon) and <code>litecoin-cli</code> (the command-line client).</p>

    <h2 id="config">Configure <a class="anchor" tabindex="-1" href="#config" aria-hidden="true">#</a></h2>
    <p>Create a <code>litecoin.conf</code>. A minimal, safe testnet config:</p>

    <p>Leaving <code>rpcpassword</code> out means Litecoin Core uses <strong>cookie authentication</strong>: it writes a temporary <code>.cookie</code> file that <code>litecoin-cli</code> reads automatically. That's safer than a password in a config file. The <code>[test]</code> section scopes settings to testnet.</p>

    <h2 id="start">Start &amp; sync <a class="anchor" tabindex="-1" href="#start" aria-hidden="true">#</a></h2>

    <p>Watch the block height climb until it matches the network. When <code>getblockchaininfo</code> shows you're at the tip, you're synced.</p>

    <div class="callout danger"><p class="co-title">Never expose RPC to the internet</p><p>Even on worthless testnet, an exposed RPC port is a bad habit that has drained real wallets on mainnet. Read <a href="/rpc-safety">use node RPC safely</a> before you open anything up.</p></div>

        <li>They have no market value, so never buy or sell them.</li>
        <li>Never use a real seed phrase or import a real wallet on testnet.</li>
        <li>Never send mainnet BTC, LTC, or XMR to a testnet address.</li>
