Adapt to existing WLED setup?

Is there a way to adapt this to my currently installed WLED staircase lights? I my stairs are L shaped, with the outside strip being 8.3 meters and the inside being 6.4 meters. Using WS2811, 720 density, 24V led strips, digiquad ethernet WLED controller. What customization do you lose by using an esp vs arduino?

Trying to bump this as well. I'd like to do a project similar to this, but with my own WS2811 strips.
