Hierarchy Levels

Hi,

We are interested in using Windshift for my team but because our work is so varied, we require a different Hierarchy setup.

The current design of Windshift allows a Hierarchy up or down 1 level but that doesn't work for us because we may have a Project, which may have Ad-Hoc tasks etc - rather than needing to create a story and an epic etc.

Is there a way around this?

Hey Connor,

I hope I understand the question correctly but you could create a new item type on Level 2. This Item Type does not need to be available in all Workspaces, it can only be configured for certain Configuration Sets

Here is an example:

I also renamed the "Story" Level 2 to "Work Package Level" for demonstration purposes.

I think from our perspective, we're concerned from a reporting point of view that having a work package at level 2 and level 4 may be difficult to display correctly on a report like on a progress report.

Ok, I think I understand the issue now. When we take Jira as an example, you can add a subtask at every level, its not part of the central hierarchy. But we only have explicit hierarchy bound item types in Windshift at the moment. So one workaround would be to create dedicated Task types for every level.

From the Windshift side, we could look into having the Sub-Task available level idependent

I think Sub-Task being available at every level could potentially resolve the issue :)

@cs-tsg - this one is now also available in 0.8.4 with sub-tasks at every level. I did not quite get around to tuning all the views to this new hierarchy yet, so it might look a bit patchy

So, @stefan-ernst , does that mean that when you create a 'child item', sub task should be an option?

We are unsure how best to use windshift, but we'd like to be able to use it 2 ways
1 - A big project split up into little sections with tasks under each
2 - A normal sized project with just tasks

i.e if we could assign tasks under any level, it would fix it

Yes, you can assign Sub tasks to every level in 0.8.4. The create option is always there (unless you are directly on another sub-task). The remaining hierarchy is untouched, so sub-tasks are just an addition at this point. They don't show up in the Tree View yet for example, this is still to do
