Copied J.Kuan's implementation of \xmalt here. This has NO relation with \begin{image}, nor with and its alt=. It just outputs a

NOTE:
\begin{image}[alt={something}]
\end{image}

can't easily work, because the syntax clashes with
\begin{image}[0.5\textwidth]
\end{image}
(ie, it would need parsing of the optional argument ...)

Is it worth mentioning here, that there is already alt-text arguments that works exactly like this in the new LaTeX kernel. In particular, they have implemented:
\includegraphics[height=5cm,alt={some alt text here}]{picture.png} [see the phase 3 example on this here]
Can we just use this for our alt-text so that it meshes properly with the new LaTeX kernel, so we aren't reinventing the wheel and/or generating confusion for content-authors when it comes to what to put where for pdf vs website from ximera?
