Why are tool names downcased?

Some of the tools created have ticket numbers in the name which are capitalised, when running the tool these have been downcased so it can lead to confusion when trying to run the tool based on the name of the directory and script created. Why is this the case?

As for ultimate cause - i have no idea if this was intended, you'd need to ask @WilliamMcCumstie
As for proximate cause - it appears to be a click thing? The config names' retain their case when the action_funcs are created and labelled (https://github.com/alces-software/adminware/blob/develop/src/action.py#L33) so I think the conversion's out of our control - might be wrong though

I agree with David on this one. When I designed the tool initially, there was no consideration made for capitalisation. As the action_func is being created the correct case, it does sound like a click issue.

As a temporary stop-gap measure, is it possible to pass the ticket number as an argument instead? This way the capitals will be correct

I don't think passing it as an argument would fit the tool structuring ideology as we'd then have one tool that handles multiple tickets. If it's too much to sort then we'll just have to learn to deal with it.

One idea - could the adminware CLI be case insensitive for tool names? Tab-completion can still only display the all-downcased tool name but if I do batch run -g nodes MyToolName it could just downcase the tool-name to mytoolname and run the tool. Currently I'd get an error for MyToolName not existing. How does this sound?

adminware CLI is built entirely with click. The tab-completion is auto generated from a click add-on/extension/thing.

click will likely support some degree of command aliasing, but this could get cumbersome (and exhaustive) . Being python this sort of dynamic interpretation isn't as easy unless it is explicitly built in. Ideally we wouldn't make any modifications to click code itself.

@DavidMarchant Can you investigate the command alias options built into click. Also check if we can hide the alias from the CLI. We don't want a three page list of every command and all it's different capitals.

Thanks guys, a little investigation is worth it but if it's impossible/too much work for what it's worth then we'll just learn to cope!
