I don't really use the main All Apps screen much (although appreciate it, as it means the app is a full replacement for the android app drawer). What I mainly use AppLauncher+ for is the categories from the side drawer, although that's not the nicest user experience.
I actually brought up the idea of a category grid as the main app page back in 2018.
However I've been happy just using the app category shortcuts directly from the android homescreen so just skip using the main app interface for the most part.
However now that i've expanded the type of android devices I have now and category shortcuts aren't always an option on devices with custom launchers (plus android gaming handhelds are becoming more popular) it means needing to primarily use AppLauncher+ via the main shortcut and interface. So alas I'll re-request my idea.
I first thought about just requesting an option to open the side drawer on open of AppLauncher+ as that'd probably be the easiest solution to achieving view of the categories by defualt. But that wouldn't solve the fact that the drawer isn't the most pleasant user experience in landscape. Which android gaming handhelds are by design.
So I revisit my idea of a category page within the main app.
(This would also make controller navigation of the app easier #2)
The category grid could (optionally) be set as the primary screen within AppLauncher+ instead of the all apps page.
Bonus functionality would be the ability to filter or split this grid into apps vs games for a game category focus for gaming handheld.
