This approach can be extended by including the Violence Against Children and Youth Survey (VACS) surveys in our analysis: although these surveys contain sufficient sexual behaviour questions, including a specific transactional sex question, they present some methodological challenge as the ages included in the survey are 13-24. There are eight suitable VACS surveys: Kenya (2014, 2020), Lesotho (2019), Malawi (2013), Eswatini (2007), Tanzania (2009), Zambia (2014) and Zimbabwe (2017).
