👋 Hello and welcome to the Modern Open Journal Systems (MOJS) community!
📢 MJS is a new open-source platform designed to redefine scholarly publishing for 2025 and beyond. Inspired by the mission of Open Journal Systems (OJS), originally developed by the Public Knowledge Project (PKP). MJS is a ground-up creation by Balinesthesia. We’ve built it from scratch with a cutting-edge stack—React with TypeScript and Next.js for a dynamic frontend, Rust with Actix Web for a high-performance backend, and Python with FastAPI for AI-driven features like peer review matchmaking—to meet today’s publishing demands head-on.
Why a new start? OJS laid an incredible foundation, but the rapid tech evolution of 2025—think scalable architectures and AI-powered workflows—called for a rethink beyond PHP’s limits. MJS isn’t a fork of OJS’s codebase; it’s a fresh evolution of its vision, tailored for a world of real-time collaboration and global reach. As of April 2025, we’re in early development, and we need your ideas to make it thrive!
