When is the next release of rules_pkg? How does that work?

I'm trying to plan ahead when my company can expect us to upgrade rules_pkg, to get a recently added feature (file permission preservation).

I'm also quite curious as to what the release schedule is - I just had a PR to support compression levels with xz land and would like to know when that might show up in a release. Perhaps @aiuto can chime in here?

I want to do one within the next few days. I've been in a sprint of reviewing and approving old PRs, and getting in some fixes we have for pkg_install. The only semi-blocker now is that I wanted to see if I can change the release workflow to build the distribution tarball and sign it. But I'm not going to die on that hill today. If I can't do it by monday, I'll released the current way.

I see version 1.2.0 is out! Thanks for releasing it. Can we potentially also update the bazel-central-registry with this version?

Yes. I decoupled the release from BCR update because this was the first release with a github workflow. I wanted to verify it before the other update.
