What tool chain do I need to use to compile this project?

Hi!

I have an old Linux VBox here with cc65 Version 2.18 installed and use GNU make Version 4.2.1 to compile the game. With

make Image

, an image

shooter.d64

is generated. Vice is installed here, so most of the time I just use

make emulator

and start the emulator directly for testing.

I am not sure, if the uploaded contain a bug, that crashes the game. I recall, that I introduced a bug when I tried so save a few bytes in the raster IRQ code. But when I started the code now in my VBox, it seemed to work.

I don't have any graphics, that is why just those characters scroll behind the space ship. I should also add some tile decompression and paint code, so you can see some buildings etc.

Ok. Just cloned the repo to an empty directory and compiled. Worked. But your error message seems plausible. I guess my old cc65 version is a bit more tolerant when it comes to types. What happens, if you edit shot.h and change line 54 to

extern unsigned char flyingShots;

It works then, thank you! However it does not seem to compile the game properly, I get this on Vice, basically a blank screen after loading it.

This is weird. I compiled it and saw the scrolling background. Hmmh...maybe I could attach the working d64 here and you could give it a test? So we know if the compiler or your vice version is the problem?

BTW: can you do graphics? The game lacks any graphics, because I am graphically challenged... ;-(
