Besides Discord being yet another big tech silicon valley for-profit service provider making money from your community's volunteering, Discord's age verification rollout has ties to Palantir co-founder and panopticon architect Peter Thiel.

There are quite some options to free your community infrastructure from the privacy apocalypse. For example, create a Matrix space and/or run a Discourse forum.
