Consider adding a provider field to residential units

GLA has asked whether the national standard should include a provider field within residential units module.

The field would be used to record who is delivering the housing, for example a private developer, housing association, or local authority.

What GLA is asking for

GLA has said this field is useful in its current model and wants it considered for inclusion in the national standard.

The key question is whether this information should be captured nationally, and if so whether it belongs at submission stage or later in the process.

• what operational, reporting, or policy decisions this field supports in practice
• whether applicants can reliably provide it at submission stage
• whether the value is mainly local or London-specific, or whether there is a stronger national case
• worked examples showing where the absence of this field causes a real problem

Current policy position is that fields should not be added to the submission standard unless there is a clear case that they affect the planning permission decision.

At the moment, the evidence provided does not meet that threshold. Knowing the provider does not impact whether permission will be granted.
