The grey bar is added in MobileTabs by the tabs and their fake element:

  .page-tab-list[data-reach-tab-list] {
...
    padding-block-end: env(safe-area-inset-bottom, 0);
...
 &::after {
...
      height: env(safe-area-inset-bottom, 0);
...
    }

Not trivial to reset it, because many things use safe-area-inset-bottom.

It's also been like that always - I think what's new is my browser, not the app - I checked out 9a0d589 Color the insets on top/bottom and still saw the issue.

You can also scroll up to hide the address bar, e.g. on the top ribbon or on the settings page, and then the map has a white rectangle under it.
