Is there a way to move an item to a different list?

I created a list and added items and then created a different list and some of the original items fit better in the new list but I don't see a way to change lists.

For a whole checklist/list, yes: open the checklist and use the edit/details dialog to change its category. The server-side update path moves the list file when the category changes, so that is the “move to another list/category” operation.

If you mean a single item inside a checklist, I do not see a dedicated “move this item to another checklist” action. For that case the practical workaround is copy/paste the item into the other checklist, or clone/move the whole checklist if that matches what you are reorganizing.
