Public and Private Key problems

Hi
I have used you toolkit for some time now and it is grate.
Same as #62 I have problems using this Public and private keys.

I have uploaded my public key to my Linux device and verify with private-key and putty that these keys worked.

Then I tried with your example Public Key Fil Authentication

But only get error 8121

Anything I can give you or test to help solving this ?
Is there any spesial format these key need to be in for this toolkit to work ?

Thank you for your interest and usage of this toolkit. It is great to hear it has been reliably working for you for a while now. I am sorry you have encountered a potential bug with the public-private key authentication.

How was the public-private key pair generated? It is possible the key pair generation algorithm is not support by this toolkit or the underlying libssh2 library.

Can you generate a public-private key with the following command and use these files with the Public-Private Authentication example?

ssh-keygen -t rsa -b 4096 -C "your_email@domain.com"

PuTTY handles key generation and management differently from libssh2 and other SSH clients. PuTTY uses its own key format. So, if the keys were generated using PuTTY and not converted/exported to the OpenSSH key format, then authentication errors will occur.

Can you please verify your Public-Private keys work with a SSH client that is not PuTTY? Windows 10/11 comes with an OpenSSH client available, but it must be explicitly installed.

@Clio75 I am just now seeing in your screenshot. The private key has a .ppk extension. This is the PuTTY-specific key file format. The issue is most likely caused by the private key not being the correct file format.

Here is a tutorial I found for converting the PPK to an OpenSSH file. I have not tested as I am not on a Windows computer at the moment, but it matched my memory of the procedure.
