• Missing items in Trade stats:
  • 2659 Alcohol, Non-Food is not reported in the bilateral trade data set. This is equal to 0.5% of global biomass trade and even more when converted into raw material equivalents! Look for data in UN Comtrade and update CBS and BTD.
  • Moreover missing: ‘Hard Fibres, Other’, ‘Palm kernels’, ‘Sisal’, ‘Yams’, ‘Laying hens’
• Harmonization of trade flows reported in Trade and CBS data sets needs to be refined, e.g. using country-specific TCFs, applying RAS or optimization techniques, and using additional data sources to check validity of FAO CBS and Trade data.
• Potential I-O inconsistencies in the optimization results need to be treated. For the moment use a pragmatic solution: Down-scale inputs and outputs after optimization
• Estimate CBS for countries, where no CBS, but trade and production data are available. However, this requires a lot of work and would only add 10-20 countries, mainly including small island states and countries from Africa and Middle East. Estimate CBS for Democratic Rep. of Congo based on CBS of Congo, Central African Rep., Sudan and Tanzania.
• Extend time series to 1961-1985 by estimating CBS based on available production statistics and trade data from other sources.
• Ethanol balances:
  • Take other use of wine to fill up non-food alcohol
  • Non-food alcohol might be also produced from food alcohol, not only from primary crops
  • Other use of sugar, molasses and sugar crops may be (partly) used for ethanol production (non-food alcohol)
  • Technical data: 70 liter of ethanol / ton sugarcane [FAO, 2008]; Specific weight of ethanol = 0.789 kg/l; 55.23 kg ethanol / ton sugarcane
