Testing ssh_config_extension

I'm testing the new config options branch. When I click running "On", nothing changes, same if I try to activate the core, for example. I can't see any differences in the GUI for the configuration either.

Do I need to refresh the workbench somehow? How can I do it?

I just started testing the integration of the new features, so there is not much to say about that right now.
To your problem, currently there seems to be a problem with the overall state of the workbench. If a ssh profile exists on start the workbench falsely labels the ssh session as running.
The next thing is that the ssh manager currently doesn't start the vagrant box and thus no connection can be established if the box wasn't started manually.
I am currently looking into all these problems and expect to have them fixed by the end of the week, or at least till next Tuesday.

This configuration works for me with my default local box (at Demo/gen/vagrant/trusty), if I used 'vagrant up' manually before starting the workbench.
But you need to make sure that you used ssh-keygen -b 4096 and ssh-copy-id -p <portnumber> vagrant@localhost with pwvagrant first.

I just pushed my most recent changes to the ssh branch and started to write a readme for better understanding.
@ElisaRojas you can try the steps described in the readme and specify a custom path for core and odl and tell me if you have any problems there please.

With the update I do see now the different options and locations.

I still have a couple of questions:

1. I followed your README and generated the key set. However, I cannot execute the second step, because ssh-copy-id is not recognized as a Windows command (yes, I'm using Windows... W7 indeed). I read that is possible to create an script for Windows or use cygwin instead. Do you know what is the fastest solution or if there is an equivalent command for Windows? (I'll keep looking for more options in Google in the meantime).
2. In the SSH ID File space, should I indicate the folder where the *.pub file has been generated or should I write the whole location, including the name as well \netide.pub (in my case)?

I think I've solved the ssh-copy-id thing following this link: http://askubuntu.com/questions/644478/i-dont-have-the-ssh-copy-id-command-windows-client

With putty, you can upload public key manually, assuming you now can access the server with username and password:

Generate the key file, with the guide you followed it will be .pub file, the content of the file should shart with "ssh-rsa AAAA ...."
Login to the server machine
Copy the content of the .pub file into the ~/.ssh/authorized_keys file (for this use vim, nano or your favourite text editor)
If your SSH directory does not exist, create it and then copy the pub file into the ~/.ssh/authorized_keys:

mkdir ~/.ssh
chmod 0700 ~/.ssh
touch ~/.ssh/authorized_keys
chmod 0644 ~/.ssh/authorized_keys
nano ~/.ssh/authorized_keys
...

Now you should be able to login with your private key file.

However, I tried to load the core and it still keeps blank. I'm not sure either if the workbench is connected to the VM, because I don't see any feedback in the GUI. (And yes, the VM is running and open, but I'm opening it with VirtualBox, could that be an issue?)

in the SSH ID File field you need to specify the key not the location, but not the *.pub key but your private key.
What bothers me is that I get a message in the terminal from the core no matter if the information I entered in the ssh profile are correct or not.
Wrong host results in a unknown host message, wrong id file in a ssh error, wrong port and wrong username in a denied connection.
I will add some additional output to the code to try to verify where your problem is.

Were you able to run the ssh -p <port> <boxName>@<ip> (in your case: ssh -p 22 netide@192.168.56.101)command to verify your ssh connection to the box?

EDIT: And could you please explain the setup of your use case to me so that I can test this on my own. So where is your vm, from where do you try to connect to it, is the host ip the ip of the vm or the ip of the machine running the vm.

EDIT2: I guess I figured out a mistake. I updated the ssh profile dialog and now you have to specify the path to the folder containing the vm. You can try this first, because I think this might fix your problem.

Regarding the SSH ID file, I changed it to: C:\Users\Elisa\VirtualBox VMs\NetIDE-Engine (v0.22)\netide which is the other file generated with ssh-keygen (apart from the *.pub one) and the private key as far as I understand. But I might be totally wrong, please let me know if so. After changing it, I still obtain the same blank outputs...

Connecting directly via ssh is perfectly ok for me. I tried ssh -p 22 netide@192.168.56.101 and it worked.

Regarding the setup, it is the simplest one: one switch and two hosts:

I have Windows 7, Eclipse Mars and the VM is located in the same PC and OS. I created it long time ago via VirtualBox. The host IP I'm indicating is the IP of the VM (assigned by the local network of VirtualBox).

I also updated the branch and provided the following path as the folder containing my VM: C:\Users\Elisa\VirtualBox VMs\NetIDE-Engine (v0.22). However, now I get this error when trying to run it:

Yes you understood the privat key thing right, that should be correct now ;)

How did you set up your network setup for the virtual box? Thats something I never did, since I always used localhost.

The network setup is automatically done by VirtualBox. You can add any adapter and then choose a type among: No connection, NAT, Bridged, Host-only, etc. More info here. If you want a fixed IP and connect your desktop to any VM running on it, the best option is the Host-only mode. The range of IPs is set up automatically by VirtualBox and in Windows it is translated into an Active Network that you can check as well.

@ElisaRojas so I followed the steps as described here and set up my virtual box. now I can successfully ssh on ip 192.168.56.101 as you can do and I can also use the workbench to connect to the core on any given location with the following setup

I am not quite sure why this does not work for you, but since I was able to rebuild your setup now I will try to add some control output to the code to see what's going on at your system and maybe test my setup on a windows machine if I can get my hands on one ;)

Thank you @janniclas ! Yes, now it looks exactly as my configuration...

It's funny, because I can perfectly connect to the VM via SSH, but not via this interface... I'm sure it has to be something related with Windows (always fooling 😅 ), the things that come into my mind are related with the paths (which are written differently) and also with the ssh command itself, as Windows does not have it in a native way (I have to use Putty or something similar instead).

If you have the chance to try the setup on a Windows machine that would be great!
In any case, please let me know when you include more control output and I'll try again.
Also it would be nice if a third person tried, Sergio Tamurejo could be a good candidate, I'll let him now (because I cannot tag him here...).

could you please check your NetIDE preferences and make sure they are set to the right path. Christian told me that they have to be configured manually on windows, which is not the case on mac or linux, so I didn't know that you might have to check that.
