so i was thinking this could be a framework agnostic tool
i don't see how the package is django specific

tho pydantic-settings exists, but this package could live up there next to it, as a non-pydantic alternative

Potentially, yes, it could. There's only a few parts of it that are django specific, however there were a number of design decisions made specifically because of how Django's settings work.

Alternatively, I did create https://pypi.org/project/confucius/ as a fresh take on class based, env-driven settings. It scratched a particular itch we had at a prior employer.

With a little more polish I think it could be quite handy.
