Is your feature request related to a problem?

The Padding slider in the Video Effects panel currently defaults to a lower value (e.g., 30%), causing newly added videos to have unnecessary padding around the content.

To provide a better out-of-the-box editing experience, the default padding should be set to 0%, allowing videos to fill the available frame by default. Users can still reduce the padding manually if they prefer additional spacing.

Proposed Solution

Update the default value of the Padding slider to 0% for newly created projects or newly added media.

Acceptance Criteria

• The Padding slider defaults to 0% when a new project is created or media is added.
• Existing projects retain their saved padding values.
• Users can still adjust the padding freely after the default is applied.
• The change affects only the initial/default value and does not modify user-defined settings.

Benefits

• Makes videos fill the canvas by default.
• Reduces the need for manual adjustments after importing media.
• Provides a more intuitive editing experience for new users.

Thanks for the suggestion — I'd rather not go that way, though.

The philosophy here is that OpenScreen should hand you the best-looking result by default, so that most people never need to open the effects panel at all. Padding is part of that: without it the wallpaper is entirely hidden behind the screen.

If anything the defaults don't go far enough today — roundness and shadow are still at 0, which is exactly what #273 fixes.

That said, I do hear you on the extra step. If you never want padding, that's a one-click "full frame" preset rather than a neutral default — happy to open an issue for it if you'd use it.

This change is assigned to the Next Release release milestone and is not necessarily available in the latest downloadable desktop release yet. It is currently marked as status: pending release until a packaged release containing it is published.
