variable server-start is undefined

I was trying out wal with the end goal of building a Bluespec struct decoder for surfer...
I tried a basic load waveform start server task and got the error message

t0(0) >-> (server-start 1234)

>>>>> WAL Runtime error! <<<<<
variable server-start is undefined

Am I missing something here?

Hi, I guess you are referencing the CXXRTL support from our RISC-V Summit'24 paper. That feature is still on the cxxrtl branch. I will try to merge that into the main branch soon.

For the time beeing you can try to write a instruction-decoder which Surfer supports ootb.

I am trying to create a plugin for Bluespec. I am not sure whether instruction decoder is suitable for this case (no fixed encoding of vectors, will change from design to design)

The approach I took was,

1. Use Bluetcl to dump a json file with all datatypes and their bitfields, and all variables with their associated datatype.(Done)
2. Write a plugin which will check each signal against this database and return its proper encoding.(Stuck trying to figure out how to write the plugin, I am not a rust coder, and while I saw slides mentioning python plugins I did not see any examples of it :( )

I came across wal and wcp and had the idea that maybe I could do a "create a virtual compound signal and send to wave" via my code editor.... i.e. with my bsv file open in vim do ,ws on a variable which will lookup the signal in json db create the bitslices and send to wave...
